Working on Game # 3 and Castle Crashers for PSN is a ton of work! In the meantime we wanted to bring back some development videos of us working on Castle Crashers.

The picture above shows the progression of the Painter Boss from it’s original conceptual form drawn by Tom Fulp to it’s final menacing overall wearing evil painter dude version.  Sometimes Tom will have an idea for a boss that will require him to draw a placeholder image for Dan to base his version off of (or as we like to call it programmer art). A lot of the times the original looks nothing like the end result and this is one of those examples.

The video below is sped up as the original version is hours and hours long.  We’re going to have some more updates about the PSN version of Castle Crashers coming up soon (as well as an awesome Game #3 announcement for December, shhhhhhh)  so be sure to check back .

Yeah, Dan have to show us some animation techniques, I prefer that than know how he paint without going over the outlines.

I didn’t use this tool until I started watching Dan’s videos.
In flash with the brush tool selected, next to where you select the size of the brush is the “Brush mode” option. You can change it to “paint inside” which means whatever shape you first paint on your brush will affect. This makes it perfect for adding 2 tone shading.
      Try it out :)

I love these videos, and i would have liked to see the full transition from Tom’s sketch to the end boss design.
Oh and to paint under the lines, there a setting when using the brush to only paint on the colour selected.

Seeing these drawing videos makes me want to play Castle Crashers again.

So THAT’s what that thing on top of the painter boss’s head is! It’s a cap! I seriously thought he had bunny ears.
